Due dates - can someone explain?
Main Post:
I've never really understood how they date pregnancies. I know the date I got pregnant, it was 9 weeks ago. But because they ask you for the date your last period started (which was a couple of weeks before that) I'm now "11 weeks" on all the documentation.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to be further along the journey, but I wasn't pregnant during my period. So when we get to the end and they say I'm "overdue", I'll only actually be 38 weeks, not 40, right?
Someone make it make sense.

It doesn't make sense. It's best to just go with it.
They take the due date from your last period, but then they adjust it at the 12 week scan. I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant with my IUI baby. I know exactly when I ovulated because I injected myself with the trigger and felt the ovulation happen (don't normally but the stims made my ovaries sore). I know exactly when I was inseminated and it was frozen sperm which doesn't live long.
Despite that, my date was adjusted based on baby's size at my 12 week scan.
It's best to just use the due date as a rough ballpark figure because there's about a 5 week window there where giving birth would be seen as completely on time. Don't get too hung up on the maths - your baby can't count yet anyway. Babies have worse delivery windows than Evri.
Anyone else have an “unfortunate” due date?

My baby’s due date is January 6. My husband and I laughed when we found it bc it’s pretty unforgettable. We have been starting to tell people and they always comment on it saying we will have an “insurrection” baby. One friend joked we should name her some rebellion inspired name like “Liberty” or “Donalda.”
Honestly the jokes have gotten stale. I have real anxiety about the state of our country (USA). I had a real ethical and moral dilemma about bringing a child into this world before the 2020 election. We only decided to try for our first after the 2020 results. Now I’m staring down the barrel of another Trump presidency with a January 6 due date lol. I think for some of my friends the reality of four more years is not a big deal whereas for me it means a whole lot (I’m a civil rights lawyer) and a whole lot for my kids who will be dealing with the consequences even longer than I will.
Let’s just say I don’t like to be reminded of it. So when people joke about my due date I give half hearted laughs and try to brush it off but it really gets to me sometimes. I’ve started saying the baby is due in “early January” instead. Not really searching for solutions just ranting. Thanks for listening.

Due date today, still no baby??
Main Post:
The waiting game at home. Baby has no signs of coming out. First time parent here. How fast can things change? Cervix was still closed as of two days ago.
Trying to decide if I need to go back to work after Monday holiday or take PTO before officially starting parental leave. (although I already passed all my work to others so going to work will be annoying)

Our was also born at 41+1 after induction at 40+6. One of my only regrets was not enjoying the last two weeks because I got so caught up in the fact that he would be here soon. My advice would be to go to work, live your routine, do everything as normal. Appreciate these last few days with your wife, the last few days of normal.
